The Texas Healthy Communities(TXHC) Program assists communities to assess their existing environments and to implement environmental, policy or systems changes at the local level to promote public health practices proven to reduce risk factors for cardiovascular disease(CVD), stroke, and other chronic diseases. Communities involved in this free program are assessed on eight priority community-based policies, systems, and environmental change indicators that are vital to reducing the burden of chronic disease. Public recognition of Texas Healthy Communities can provide reassurance to the citizens of Texas that their elected officials, community leaders, employers, schools, and health care professionals are taking action to make their communities healthier and safer places to live, work, and play.
