JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Registered Dietitian (contract)

Department / Program: WIC

FLSA: Non-exempt

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Provide staff education, participant education, develop and implement the nutrition education plan. Provide WIC oversight assessments and evaluations. Participate in the Quality Assurance program. Assist the WIC Director as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING; OTHER RELATED DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED:

Provide individual counseling to high risk WIC participants

Provide staff training on nutrition related topics and nutrition assessment procedures

Develop and implement Nutrition and Breastfeeding Plan

Consultation regarding the issuance of formula’s other than non-contract

Assist with program monitoring and evaluation

Participates in quality assurance for the WIC program

Assist the WIC Director in preparing for site visits, outreach efforts, and oversight assessments and evaluations
Performs work related duties as assigned

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in dietetics, food and nutrition, or related field is generally preferred

Experience in dietetic work

Experience and education may be substituted for one another

Knowledge, skills and Abilities
Knowledge of nutrition: food preparation and diet therapy

Ability to plan, assigns, and/or supervise the work of others; plan menus and evaluate nutrition plans

Ability to work as a team member with different health care providers

Special instructions and/or Remarks
Weekend work and work hours other than 8 -5 may occasionally be required

Bilingual (Spanish/English) desirable

Must have reliable transportation (when JNCPHD/WIC vehicle unavailable)

Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile liability insurance required

Registration, Certification, or Licensure
Maintain registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration

Valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance required

Physical Condition
Good health and physical condition sufficient to permit the full performance of the duties of the position

May require prolonged sitting or standing, bending, stooping, and stretching

May occasionally require lifting or carrying items up to 50 pounds
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range

Work Environment
Indoor environment

Possible exposure to a variety of infections and/or communicable diseases

Follow recommended immunizations per JNCPHD/WIC guidelines
